How it works
- When you choose your sex and age group, the tool shows the typical average daily steps for that group and the daily step target from Health Japan 21 (second term). Enter your own step count (optional) to also see the difference from the average and target and a distance estimate.
- The average step figures are rough estimates based on the age- and sex-specific values in Japan's National Health and Nutrition Survey. They are rounded guides drawn from public statistics; please check the official statistics for the latest and exact figures.
- The target step counts are based on the daily targets set by Health Japan 21 (second term). The target differs for people aged 64 and under versus 65 and over, and this tool treats the '70 and over' group as the '65 and over' category.
- The distance estimate assumes a stride of about 0.7 m per step. Because your actual stride varies with height and walking speed, the distance is only a rough guide.
- The figures shown are reference values for health management. If you plan to greatly increase your activity or have concerns about your condition or a chronic illness, please consult a doctor or specialist.
