How it works
- The averages are approximate values based on the age- and sex-specific statistics of the Japan Sports Agency "Physical Fitness and Motor Ability Survey (New Physical Fitness Test)." For the latest exact figures, refer to the official statistics of Japan's MEXT and Sports Agency.
- Supported ages are 6–19 (roughly 1st grade of elementary school through 3rd year of high school). Records for boys tend to increase with age, reaching around 229 cm at age 19, while girls tend to plateau from ages 15–19 (around 171–173 cm).
- In the new physical fitness test, the standing long jump is performed with a two-foot takeoff and two-foot landing; the distance from just before the takeoff line to the nearest landing point is measured twice, and the better result is recorded.
- The difference from the average (±cm) and the percentage of the average (%) for your child's record are reference guides only. Individual differences in height, weight, and exercise habits are large, and it is not appropriate to judge physical ability by these numbers alone.
- In addition to the standing long jump, the new physical fitness test measures eight items: grip strength, sit-ups, sit-and-reach, side steps, the 20 m shuttle run, the 50 m sprint, and the softball throw.
- To improve records, it is considered effective to build lower-body strength (e.g., squats), flexibility, and well-timed arm swing and takeoff technique.
