Commute Calorie Calculator
Estimate the calories burned on your daily commute. Just enter your weight, one-way travel time, and mode of travel (walking or cycling) to see the result, plus equivalents in bowls of rice and grams of body fat.
Input
Estimate the calories you burn on your daily commute from your weight, travel time, and mode of travel (intensity). METs are representative values, so treat the result as a guide.

How it works
- Calories are estimated with the common simplified formula "METs x weight (kg) x time (hours) x 1.05". This is a rough guide that includes resting metabolism.
- METs (metabolic equivalents) express exercise intensity as a multiple of the resting rate. Because intensity varies by mode of travel, you can choose from walking commute (normal) 3.5, walking (brisk) 4.3, and cycling commute 6.8.
- The MET values are guides based on representative figures such as those in Japan's National Institute of Health and Nutrition physical activity METs table (revised edition). Actual calories burned vary with body type, walking speed, the weight of your bags, road incline, temperature, and more.
- The travel time you enter is assumed to be one-way. To find the round-trip or daily total, enter the combined time.
- For reference, the result also shows equivalents using about 234 kcal per bowl of rice and about 7.2 kcal per gram of body fat. These conversions are only rough guides.
- The displayed numbers are reference values for health management. If you have health concerns or chronic conditions, or plan to significantly increase your activity, consult a doctor or specialist.
