How it works
- It scores your age, sex, systolic blood pressure, smoking status, diabetes status, HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol and family history of early-onset coronary artery disease, then maps the total to a risk category (low, moderate or high).
- The scoring framework is inspired by the coronary artery disease risk model (the Suita score) developed by Japan's National Cerebral and Cardiovascular Center from a Japanese population. The worse each factor is (higher blood pressure, smoking, higher LDL, lower HDL, and so on), the more points it adds.
- Points are added by the approximate bands commonly used in health check-ups โ for example systolic blood pressure of below 120, up to 129, up to 139, up to 159 and 160 or higher; LDL from below 100 up to 180 or higher; and HDL below 40, up to 59, and 60 or higher.
- The displayed score and the low/moderate/high categories are an independent approximation that does not exactly match the original scoring tables, and they do not precisely indicate your future onset rate. Please use them only as a guide to grasp your relative risk level from a combination of factors.
- You can use the result as a prompt to review room for improvement in smoking, blood pressure, lipids and blood sugar, but do not start or stop any medication on your own judgment. If any values or symptoms concern you, check them at a health check-up or medical visit.
- This tool is a guide based on a general estimation formula and is not a diagnosis or medical treatment. Always consult a doctor for health decisions.
