Retirement Payout Annuity Simulation

Estimate how much you can receive each year and month by drawing down your retirement payout evenly over a set number of years while it earns an annual return, using the capital recovery factor. See total received, investment gains, and the year-by-year balance.

Using the capital recovery factor (the reciprocal of the present-value annuity factor), this estimates the payout when the balance is drawn down evenly while still earning returns. Each payout is assumed to occur after interest is added to the beginning-of-period balance.

How it works

  • Taking the retirement payout you received as principal, this computes the per-payout amount when it is drawn down evenly over the payout years while earning an annual return, using the capital recovery factor. Factor = r(1+r)^n รท ((1+r)^n โˆ’ 1), and each payout = principal ร— factor (where r is the per-period rate and n is the total number of periods).
  • When the payout frequency is monthly, one period equals one month: the monthly rate is the annual rate รท 12 and the total number of periods is payout years ร— 12, and the tool shows both the monthly amount and the annual amount (monthly ร— 12). "Once a year" is computed with one period equal to one year.
  • When the investment return is 0%, the capital recovery factor is undefined, so the principal is simply drawn down as principal รท total number of periods.
  • The balance schedule is computed on the assumption that each period repeats "add interest to the beginning-of-period balance, then draw down the payout," so the year-end balance in the final year is theoretically 0 yen. Total received = per-payout amount ร— total number of periods, and investment gain = total received โˆ’ principal.
  • This tool is an estimate based on a general financial formula (the capital recovery factor) as of fiscal year 2024 (Reiwa 6) in Japan, and it does not account for taxes, social insurance premiums, inflation, or investment risk. Actual pension-fund management and receivable amounts vary by product and system.
  • The results are only a rough guide. Always confirm the details of how you receive a retirement payout, the tax rules (such as the Japanese retirement income deduction), and the latest investment product terms with official sources such as financial institutions or the Japanese National Tax Agency.
