How it works
- Asset longevity is an estimate of how long your savings will last as you draw them down. It is calculated from your starting balance, annual investment return, and fixed monthly withdrawal.
- The simulation runs month by month: each month it adds the investment return (annual rate ÷ 12) to the balance, then subtracts your monthly withdrawal. The money is considered depleted in the month the balance first falls to or below the withdrawal amount (a simple end-of-month withdrawal model).
- The estimated depletion age is your current age plus the asset longevity in years. This is a pure drawdown simulation and does not account for pension income or other earnings.
- If the monthly investment return keeps exceeding your withdrawal, the balance never decreases, so the tool reports that it will not run out within the 100-year horizon. In reality returns vary every year and are not guaranteed.
- This is a simplified simulation that assumes a constant return and ignores inflation, taxes, fees, pension income, one-off expenses, and additional deposits. Displayed amounts are rounded estimates and will differ from real portfolio changes.
