When acceleration is constant, velocity changes linearly with time. The trapezoidal area under the line equals the distance traveled.
How it works
- The time is found with t=(v−v0)/a, where a is acceleration, v0 is initial velocity, and v is final velocity (a is not zero).
- The distance is computed with x=v0·t+(1/2)·a·t². This equals the average velocity (v0+v)/2 multiplied by the time.
- All values use SI base units. Velocity is in m/s, acceleration in m/s², time in s, and distance in m.
- With zero acceleration the time is not uniquely defined, so it returns an error. Combinations that give a negative time are physically unreachable and also return an error.
