How it works
- Lost profit is calculated as "base income × (1 − living expense deduction rate) × loss of earning capacity rate × the Leibniz coefficient for the working years." Use your pre-accident annual income as a guide for the base income.
- The Leibniz coefficient (annuity present value factor) discounts income you would have received in the future to its present value, and is found as (1 − (1 + interest rate)^(−working years)) ÷ interest rate. The interest rate defaults to 3%, which is widely used today.
- The living expense deduction rate is the share subtracted because the person's own living expenses no longer arise, such as in death cases. The typical figure differs depending on the person's role (household breadwinner, single, etc.), so enter a value that fits the case.
- The loss of earning capacity rate is the decline in the ability to work according to the severity of the residual disability, and approximate figures are set for each disability grade. In death cases where all income is lost, you can calculate with 100%.
- This tool's result is a simplified estimate using the Leibniz coefficient. It does not reflect the intermediate interest deduction method, working years by age or occupation, lost-income compensation, or consolation money, so it does not match the actual compensation amount.
- For concrete compensation claims or settlement decisions, always consult a professional such as a lawyer about your specific circumstances. Use this tool as an aid for quickly grasping a rough estimate.
