How it works
- The area of a rhombus equals half the product of its diagonals: area = p × q ÷ 2, where p and q are the diagonal lengths.
- If you know a side a and the height h, the area can also be found as area = a × h.
- The side length follows from the diagonals as a = √((p÷2)² + (q÷2)²), and the perimeter is 4 × a.
- When entering a side and height, the height must be less than or equal to the side length.

Frequently asked questions
- How is the area of a rhombus calculated?
- With diagonals p and q, the area is p × q ÷ 2. For example, p = 6 cm and q = 8 cm give 6 × 8 ÷ 2 = 24 cm². If you know a side a and height h instead, the area is a × h.
- How does this differ from the parallelogram area calculator?
- A rhombus can be found from its two diagonals as p × q ÷ 2, which is its distinctive formula, while a parallelogram uses base × height. A rhombus also works with side a × height h, and that part is shared with a parallelogram.
- Can it also give the side length and perimeter from the diagonals?
- Yes. The side comes from the diagonals as a = √((p ÷ 2)² + (q ÷ 2)²), and the perimeter is 4 × a. When entering a side and height, the height must be no greater than the side length.
