Knitting Gauge to Stitch & Row Count Calculator
Turn your 10 cm swatch gauge (stitches and rows) into the stitch and row counts needed for any finished width and height. Perfect for resizing knitting patterns.
Input
Enter the stitch and row counts measured over a 10 cm square swatch, then set your finished width and height to estimate how many stitches and rows you need to knit. Because results vary with yarn and your knitting tension, treat them as a guide.

How it works
- Knit a swatch, count the stitches and rows that fit in a 10 cm square near the center, and enter that as your gauge. Avoid the edges, where stitches tend to distort, for a more accurate reading.
- Stitches needed = width cm ÷ 10 × gauge stitches, and rows needed = height cm ÷ 10 × gauge rows. The results are rounded to whole numbers and are approximate.
- Even with the same yarn and needles, gauge shifts with your tension and your form on the day. Working the swatch with the exact yarn, needles, and stitch pattern of the project keeps the error small.
- Stitch patterns, increases and decreases, ribbing stretch, and seam allowances are not accounted for. Adjust the stitch and row counts to match your pattern as needed.
- Noting the per-centimeter stitch and row counts lets you apply the same math to partial measurements such as pockets and necklines.
- The displayed figures are only a guide. They do not guarantee the finished size of your project, so please use them as reference values.
