Air Conditioner (Cooling) Electricity Cost & CO2
Estimate the electricity cost and CO2 emissions of running an AC in cooling mode from its power draw (W), hours, and days. You can also pick by room size.
Input
Estimate the running cost and CO2 emissions of an air conditioner in cooling mode from its power draw (W) and how you use it. If you don't know the power draw, pick a value based on your room size.

Breakdown
| Item | Per day | Period total |
|---|---|---|

| CO2 emissions | 2.16 kg | 64.8 kg |
How it works
- Electricity cost is computed as power (W) ÷ 1000 × hours × days × unit price (per kWh). The total cost for the period is shown as the headline result.
- CO2 emissions are computed as energy used (kWh) × CO2 emission factor (kg-CO2/kWh). The default factor of 0.45 kg-CO2/kWh is a representative grid-average value; the actual factor varies by country, provider, and generation mix, so adjust it in the input field.
- The default power draw and room-size presets are typical cooling ratings. Real power draw varies by model, set temperature, outdoor temperature, and operating state (higher at startup, lower once stable).
- Electricity prices and CO2 factors differ greatly from country to country; the defaults are only a guide. Replace them with the unit price on your own bill and your provider's emission factor for a more accurate estimate.
- Results are rough estimates only. They do not account for inverter-driven power fluctuations or standby power.
- To cool efficiently, avoid setting the temperature too low, use a fan or circulator alongside the AC, clean the filter, and favor continuous running over frequent on/off switching.
