How it works
- The annual running cost is the sum of 'automobile tax + voluntary insurance + shaken inspection (prorated over 1 year) + parking + fuel + maintenance & consumables', and the monthly cost is the annual amount divided by 12.
- Since a shaken inspection is typically required once every 2 years, the entered 2-year total is divided by 2 to prorate it into a per-year amount.
- Fuel cost is calculated as 'annual distance / fuel economy x fuel price'. An estimate of annual fuel usage (L) is also shown.
- The cost per km is calculated as 'annual running cost / annual driving distance', and can be used as a guide showing that the more you drive, the cheaper it becomes per km.
- Voluntary insurance and parking fees can be entered as either an annual or monthly amount, and are automatically converted to an annual amount based on the selected unit.
- Tax, insurance premiums, and fuel prices vary depending on the vehicle type, insurance grade, region, and time period. Please use the results only as a rough estimate.
