Energy Converter
Convert energy units like joules, calories, kWh, and electronvolts all at once just by entering a value. Great for estimating electricity costs and studying physics and nutrition.
Input
kWh
Unit of the entered value
Kilowatt-hour(kWh)
Result
1 kWh =
3,600,000J
| Unit | Symbol | Converted value |
|---|---|---|
| Joule | J | 3,600,000 |
| Kilojoule | kJ | 3,600 |
| Megajoule | MJ | 3.6 |
| Calorie | cal | 860,420.65 |
| Kilocalorie | kcal | 860.4207 |
| Watt-hour | Wh | 1,000 |
| Kilowatt-hour | kWh | 1 |
| Electronvolt | eV | 2.2469e+25 |
| British thermal unit | BTU | 3,412.13 |
| Erg | erg | 3.6000e+13 |
| Ton of TNT (TNT equivalent) | t-TNT | 0.00086 |
How it works
- Supported units are joule (J), kilojoule (kJ), megajoule (MJ), calorie (cal), kilocalorie (kcal), watt-hour (Wh), kilowatt-hour (kWh), electronvolt (eV), British thermal unit (BTU), erg, and ton of TNT — 11 in total.
- All conversions are based on the joule (J). The entered value is first converted to joules and then to every selected unit, so any unit can be converted into any other.
- Defined values such as 1 cal = 4.184 J, 1 Wh = 3600 J, 1 kWh = 3,600,000 J, 1 BTU = 1055.06 J, and 1 ton of TNT = 4.184×10⁹ J are used.
- To use it, enter the value you want to convert and choose its unit. The conversion results for all units appear in a table as you type, with the value in the base unit joule shown prominently.
- Values that are very large or very small are automatically switched to exponential notation (e.g. 1.234e+9). Displayed figures are rounded for readability, so be mindful of fractions in precise calculations.
- Useful for cross-field energy comparisons such as estimating electricity bills (kWh), food energy (kcal), and physics or chemistry calculations (J, eV).
