How it works

  • Annual electricity cost is calculated as yearly power use (kWh) multiplied by the electricity rate (per kWh); the difference between the old and new appliance is your yearly savings.
  • Annual CO2 emissions are estimated as yearly power use (kWh) multiplied by the CO2 emission factor (kg-CO2/kWh), and the difference is the reduction. The default factor of 0.45 kg-CO2/kWh is a rough grid-average estimate and varies significantly by country, region, and your electricity plan.
  • The payback period is the replacement cost divided by the annual savings. It is not shown when the cost is left blank or when the savings are zero or below.
  • The default electricity rate is a representative value; electricity prices and currencies differ by country, so enter the rate from your own bill for a more accurate estimate.
  • Enter the annual energy consumption from the product catalog or energy label. Actual figures depend on how the appliance is used, such as run time and temperature settings.
  • Results are rough estimates only. They exclude installation and disposal fees beyond the unit price, as well as any added comfort from improved performance.
